About Kapten Batik

Batik You Can Wear Every Day

Founded in March 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Kapten Batik was built around one idea: batik you can wear every day. Not formal. Not ceremonial. A versatile, modern interpretation of Malaysia's most iconic textile tradition, designed for the occasion, the pool, the weekend, and the dinner table.

Started by two friends who travelled extensively across Nusantara and saw an opportunity to bring batik into contemporary life, the brand has since grown into one of Malaysia's most recognised fashion labels. Kapten Batik spans a full range for men, women, and juniors, including slim fit and modern fit shirts, activewear, linen trousers, accessories, and home décor, all rooted in the batik motif.

Today, Kapten Batik operates through its flagship store at The Gardens Mall in Kuala Lumpur, multiple boutique locations across Malaysia, and a growing Shopify-powered D2C store serving a customer base of over 20,000 online shoppers.

The Challenge

Converting Collection Launches Into Repeat Buyers

Fashion brands live and die by their next drop. A new collection brings in buyers. But without a system to bring those buyers back, each launch starts from scratch.

Kapten Batik had built strong brand recognition and a growing online customer base. The challenge was retention: turning customers who discovered the brand through a collection launch into repeat buyers who came back independently of campaigns.

The Core Question

How do you build a loyalty programme that keeps up with a fashion brand's seasonal rhythm, without requiring customers to wait for the next campaign to feel valued?

  • No structured reward mechanism to incentivise repeat purchases beyond individual collection launches
  • Email marketing needed to scale and connect more directly to measurable revenue outcomes
  • Loyalty programme needed to feel like a natural part of the brand experience, not a separate add-on

The Solution

Loyalty, Email & Reviews Working Together on AiTrillion

Kapten Batik runs three primary AiTrillion channels: loyalty rewards, email marketing, and product reviews — connected through the same platform so loyalty activity informs email content, email campaigns reinforce programme value, and reviews convert new visitors into first-time buyers.

Channel 01 · Loyalty Rewards

The Engine Behind Repeat Revenue

The loyalty programme is the backbone of Kapten Batik's retention strategy. Customers earn points on every purchase, creating persistent incentive to return between collection drops. The 55% points growth reflects not just programme adoption, but existing members purchasing more frequently. Loyalty compounds: the more customers earn, the stronger the pull to return.

35.6% Click Growth

Kapten Batik's email volume grew modestly from 1.9M to 2.0M emails year-on-year, but email clicks grew 35.6% — a signal that content is becoming more relevant. Customers aren't just opening emails, they're taking action. Loyalty milestones trigger email communication. Collection launches reach loyalty members first. Points reminders reduce inactivity. The two channels reinforce each other continuously.

Converting New Visitors

Tens of thousands of review request emails collected hundreds of verified product reviews. For fashion where fit, fabric, and detail matter, peer reviews drive purchase confidence and conversion for new visitors. Reviews close the loop — loyalty rewards existing customers, email keeps them engaged, and reviews turn strangers into buyers by giving them proof from people like them.

How It Works

Loyalty & Reviews, Woven Into the Brand Experience

Kapten Batik's retention system isn't a layer bolted onto the store. It's part of how the brand relationship works — from the moment a customer signs up for points to the moment a new visitor reads a review before their first purchase.

Kapten Batik Shopify fashion brand loyalty programme built with AiTrillion featuring multi-tier earning system (shop, celebrate birthday, leave reviews), flexible redemption tiers (RM15 to RM175 discount), and social engagement incentives (Instagram, Facebook follows) creating habit loops and repeat purchase frequency for sustainable customer lifetime value growth in fashion retail
Touchpoint 01 · Loyalty Programme

A Loyalty Wallet Customers Actually Use

The Kapten Batik Loyalty Program is built around four earning behaviours (create account, birthday, purchase, review) and five redemption tiers ranging from RM15 off at 500 points to RM175 off at 5,000 points. Points also unlock via Instagram and Facebook follows, closing the loop between social engagement and repeat purchase.

Why it works: Points earned grew from 18.3M to 28.4M year-on-year — a 55% jump. That's not just new sign-ups. That's existing customers coming back more often because the wallet has real weight in it. A customer sitting on 500 points is a customer thinking about their next purchase before the next collection even drops.
Kapten Batik Shopify fashion brand review system powered by AiTrillion displaying 1,068 verified customer testimonials with one-click access, authentic verified buyer feedback, and product-level ratings visible on storefront, converting new visitors through peer social proof and driving repeat purchase confidence and customer lifetime value
Touchpoint 02 · Product Reviews

1,068 Verified Reviews, One Click Away

A single "Reviews" tab lives on every product page, giving new visitors instant access to 1,068 verified customer testimonials — split into site reviews and product reviews. Each review includes the specific product purchased (Tetris Nusantara Modern Fit, Bloom and Build, and others), a verified buyer badge, and dated feedback that feels authentic rather than staged.

Why it works: For fashion where fit, fabric, and detail matter, peer reviews are the deciding factor for new visitors. Reviews written by real customers who describe how the shirt fits, feels, and photographs convert first-time buyers with far higher confidence than any marketing copy could.

What Kapten Batik Gets Right

3 Retention Principles Worth Stealing

01

They built loyalty into the brand experience, not around it

For Kapten Batik, the loyalty programme is not a separate layer bolted onto their Shopify store. It is part of how the brand relationship works. Customers earn on every purchase, hear about it in every email, and experience it as a natural extension of shopping with the brand. That integration is why the programme compounds year on year rather than plateauing.

02

They measure the right things

The focus on points earned, points redeemed, and loyalty-driven orders rather than total email volume or subscriber count reflects a mature approach to retention metrics. When points redeemed grow in line with points earned, it signals a healthy programme. When email clicks outpace email sends, it signals improving relevance. Kapten Batik's metrics point in the right direction across the board.

03

They let retention compound

Year one built the foundation. Year two saw 55% more points earned and 27.8% more points redeemed. The programme is not flat. It is growing. Each returning customer earns more points, redeems more confidently, and creates a stronger pull for the next purchase. This is what a retention engine looks like when it is given time to run.

What This Means for Your Shopify Fashion Brand

"Retention in fashion is not about discounts. It is about habit."

Kapten Batik's results are directly applicable to any fashion or lifestyle brand with a repeat purchase opportunity, seasonal collections, or a customer base that could be buying more frequently if given a structured reason to return. AiTrillion's loyalty and email combination gives Kapten Batik the infrastructure to build that habit, consistently, across every customer, every collection, every year. The 55% growth in points earned from year one to year two is not a marketing statistic. It is proof that the habit is forming.
